Bible Reading

“13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”

John 16:13-15

We have spent significant time talking and learning about the source and foundation of truth, Jesus. Jesus is our source of truth, but how do we daily walk in the power of truth and wear it as a belt? In John 16, Jesus was teaching about the coming of the Holy Spirit and the role He would play in our lives. He specifically had been speaking about how the world would hate us the same way it hated Jesus. So, how does this impact putting on the belt of truth?

Lord, speak to me through Your word today. I quiet my heart and mind right now and remove all distractions so I can hear You. My heart and mind are open to You right now.

Questions from today’s reading:

  • How does Jesus refer to the Holy Spirit? (see verse 26)
  • Why did Jesus tell the disciples about the Holy Spirit?
  • What does the Spirit guide us into?
  • Who does the Spirit testify about, and how does this help us?

Applications from today’s reading:

  • Jesus is our source of truth, the Holy Spirit is our GUIDE to truth.
    • Ask God to reveal to you who or what you have been relying on to guide you to truth (ie friends, culture, relationships, goals, etc)
  • Reflecting on what the Lord showed you have relied on as a guide, write down how this has affected your ability to live in the truth daily.
  • Because the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth (John 15:26) when we invite Him into every moment of every day, He can not take us anywhere but the truth!
  • The Holy Spirit is not just our guide, but a witness about Jesus.
    • As we ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and help, He witnesses to us about Jesus (our source of truth).
  • To daily walk in truth, begins with asking the Holy Spirit to guide us into truth and to help us live in it.
    • Start right now by inviting the Holy Spirit into your day and your heart, mind, and soul to show you the truth (integrity and faithfulness) for today.

Lord, thank You that You have given me the Holy Spirit, who guides me into all truth, that is found in You. Holy Spirit, I invite You into my day today. I ask that throughout my day, You would be my guide. Guide my work, my conversations, and my thoughts, and lead me into all truth and right living, so that others may see me and glorify God. In Jesus’ name, amen.
