Bible Reading

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lords people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.”

Ephesians 6:18-20

Introduction

Paul’s closing to the armor of God is how we finish this collection. Paul gives one final instruction in the task of putting on the armor, to pray. His instruction is clear, pray on all occasions and with all kinds of prayers. Prayer is the binding force for us to be able to wear the Armor of God every single day. Prayer is our energy and our driving force in a world where we are constantly fighting attacks.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for everything that You have taught me from Your Word as I have studied the Armor of God. I pray that as I spend my last day in Your presence, I will be reignited in my prayer life and that I will be a person who never ceases praying and spending time communing with You.

Questions from today’s reading

  • How are we to pray?
  • When are we to pray, according to Paul?
  • What is Paul’s instruction for us when we are always praying?
  • How does praying for others impact us as we put on the armor of God?

Applications from today’s reading

  • For us to effectively apply prayer, we must have a proper understanding of prayer.
    • Simply defined, prayer is to speak to God.
  • Prayer is not a task reserved for the spiritually elite or perfect people.
    • Anyone, anywhere, anytime can speak to God.
  • In his commentary on Ephesians, Warren Wiersbe writes, “Prayer is the energy that enables the Christian soldier to wear the armor and wield the Sword.”
    • Take time to think about a time you tried to fight a spiritual battle in your own power. Write down some reflection on how that went and may have been different had you prayed and relief from God’s power.
    • Without prayer, we cannot effectively stand firm!
  • Take time now to pause and talk to God. Maybe you pray all the time, sometimes, or never. But let this be a moment where you talk to God with “all kinds of prayer’. The best way to pray is just to start.

Prayer

God, I pause right now in Your presence and ask You to speak to me. It is through prayer that I hear from You. Give me the strength to quiet my mind when I pray to listen, that prayer would not just be a list I give you, but a conversation with you. Thank You for the weapon that is prayer, help me, and strengthen me to be a prayer warrior. In Jesus’ name, amen.
