Bible Reading

“14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ ”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and f is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.”

John 1:14-18

In John 1, John is giving us an introduction to the life and ministry of Jesus. He wrote to help us understand that Jesus is God, manifest in the flesh. Thus everything that Jesus said and did was that of God, in the flesh. There was a man, John (the Baptist, not the writer of the book of John) who came before Jesus. He was a great man, but he was not God, he pointed to Jesus coming to earth.

Lord, thank You for sending your son, Jesus, into this world. Thank You for the perfect life that He lived, as the truth. I pray as I study this passage from John 1 today, You will help me to see how I can put on the belt of truth, every day. That I will be a person who lives and walks in the truth, through Your power, in me. Speak to me through Your Word today.

Questions from today’s reading:

  • Who is the Word?
  • What did the Son come from the Father full of?
  • How does this fullness impact our need for grace and truth?
  • What correlation is there between the fullness of truth in Jesus and the belt of truth?

Applications from today’s reading:

  • We have the ultimate example of truth in Jesus.
    • He came and lived as a human full of grace and truth.
  • For us to put on the belt of truth, begins with Jesus.
    • Jesus is our source of truth (integrity)
  • Because Jesus lived with and is full of truth, He has all we need.
  • Living life with integrity frees up the rest of our lives, the same way the belt for a soldier held their garments together.
  • Being a person of truth and integrity is integral to standing against evil.
    • Ask the Lord to reveal where in your life you lack integrity.
      • Integrity is doing the righteous thing.

God, thank You for the evidence of the real truth that You gave us in Jesus. Thank You that we have a Savior who lived a perfect life, full of truth. I ask that You would help me to build my life on the life and testimony of Jesus, as my source of truth. Help me to live a life of integrity, through Your power in me, so that I may be equipped to live a free and true life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
